President Mahama and Otumfuo recognised at inaugural Tree Crops Excellence Awards


Accra, Feb. 23, – The Tree Crops Development Authority has celebrated outstanding contributors in Ghana’s tree crops sector, awarding stakeholders across the cashew, shea, mango, coconut, rubber, and oil palm value chains.

The ceremony concluded the four-day 2026 Tree Crops Summit and Exhibition, themed: “Sustainable Growth through Tree Crops Investment: Resetting and Building Ghana’s Green Economy.”

In the honorary category, President John Dramani Mahama received the Most Outstanding Tree Crops Icon/Ambassador/Promoter Award, while the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was recognised as Most Outstanding Innovative Tree Crop Farmer and Processor.

Other notable awardees included Mr Eric Opoku, MP for Asunafo South and Minister for Food and Agriculture, honoured for his role in the TCDA Act; former Ministers Mr Kwesi Ahwoi and Mr Akoto Owusu Afriyie, recognised for their contributions to establishing the Authority; as well as Mr Seth Osei Akoto, MP for Atwima Mponua, and Mr William Quittoo, TCDA’s first CEO.

In the general category, Dr Erasmus Nartey Tetteh of Food Advancement Ghana received four awards across the rubber, mango, and coconut sectors, while Ghana Oil Palm Development Company Limited earned three awards in oil palm. Chief Adams Tampuri, President of the Ghana Cashew Council, received the Tree Crop Champion Award.

Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, highlighted the government’s renewed commitment to agriculture, noting the creation of the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry as a sign of focus on agribusiness development.

Dr Andy Osei Okrah, TCDA CEO, said the awards aim to encourage competitiveness and attract investment in the tree crops industry, while Chief Tampuri urged the Authority to expand recognition to more contributors.
