Dambai (O/R), Feb. 15, – The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a major narcotics shipment in the Oti Region, seizing 1,696 compressed parcels of suspected India hemp and arresting seven individuals during a series of intelligence-led operations.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Command, the operations began on February 13 when police intercepted a Hyundai Atos taxi (registration VR188-16) on the Lekanti–Kute road. A search uncovered 48 parcels of suspected narcotics, leading to the arrest of driver Emmanuel Yao, 40, and his accomplice, Felix Emulator.
On February 14, acting on intelligence, officers raided a location in Tsikata near Ahamansu, uncovering 166 parcels of suspected India hemp in three bags and three sacks. Three suspects were arrested on the spot, while a fourth, Korsi Akpavi, escaped.
The following day, February 15, police intercepted a Benz cargo truck (registration GS3831-09) at Bodada. A hidden, modified compartment contained 1,482 parcels of suspected India hemp. The driver, Justice Nelson Amrado, attempted to bribe officers with GHS80,000, which was firmly rejected. Passenger Yussif Onaneye, 25, was also arrested.
The Oti Regional Police Command is continuing efforts to apprehend the fugitive, Korsi Akpavi, and has urged the public to provide any information that could aid crime prevention in the area.
