Accra, Feb. 16, – Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged party members to remain united and committed as they prepare for the 2028 general election, stressing that success would require hard work and humility.
Addressing the Party’s National Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia said electoral victory would not come automatically.
“Victory in 2028 will not be handed to us. It must be earned constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose,” he said.
The thanksgiving event, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, was organised to express gratitude to God following the NPP’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026, which elected him as the Party’s flagbearer for the next general election.
The programme brought together party stalwarts, supporters and sympathisers, many dressed in white, for prayers, worship and renewed pledges of unity.
Reflecting on the internal contest, Dr Bawumia acknowledged that the primary had been intense and may have created tensions within the Party.
“Elections can leave scars that may not be visible but can cut deep,” he noted, calling on members to forgive one another for harsh words exchanged during the campaign.
He commended reconciliation efforts undertaken so far but emphasised that genuine healing would require openness and deliberate engagement.
“Healing will not come from silence. It will come from speaking about what unites us and working together towards it,” he said.
The Flagbearer encouraged members to move beyond personal grievances, internal mistrust and factional divisions, pointing out that the Party’s shared vision outweighed its differences.
Looking ahead, Dr Bawumia announced plans for a nationwide thank-you tour to appreciate members for their dedication and conduct throughout the primary process.
He also indicated that the Party would reorganise its policy framework to refine and communicate its alternative proposals to Ghanaians more effectively.
In addition, efforts were underway to strengthen party structures and build what he described as a more motivated and efficient political machinery.
“This is the beginning of our journey to win back the trust and love of the Ghanaian people,” he said, pledging to collaborate with party executives, youth organisers, women leaders and elders at all levels to rebuild public confidence.
Dr Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to discipline, service and hard work, urging members to remain focused as the NPP prepares for the 2028 polls.
