Kumasi, Feb. 13, – The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Agriculture has taken delivery of 250,083 day-old chicks (137,788 broilers, 112,295 layers) plus 5,581 bags of chick mash for the government's Nkoko Nketenkete poultry programme.
Regional Director Dr. David Anambam said 200 anchor farmers have received 50 chicks each with two bags of mash. MMDAs will distribute to additional beneficiaries after four-week brooding.
Timeline: Layers start laying by April; broilers ready at eight weeks – targeting Ghana's 80-95% frozen chicken import reliance.
Dr. Anambam assured 2026 veterinary focus on animal health, meat inspection, and consumer safety to support local production and public health.
