Tarkwa (W/R), Feb. 13, – An 18-year-old illegal miner, Theophilus Fameye, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour by Tarkwa District Magistrate Court Two for stealing an iPhone 11 worth GH¢2,600 from a student.
Fameye pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing before Magistrate Isaac Osei Asare.
Police Inspector Patrick Essien told the court that complainant Stephen Omare, a Bompieso resident, left his phone charging in his unlocked room on January 12, 2026, around 10:00 p.m. He slept in his father's adjacent room due to a faulty fan.
The next morning at 7:00 a.m., Omare discovered the theft. Calls to the switched-off phone yielded no response until a tip-off identified Fameye, a local resident.
Confronted at his home, Fameye retrieved and surrendered the iPhone. He was escorted to Aboso Police Station where the complaint was formally lodged.
