Accra, Feb. 12, – Government plans to establish an Independent Fiscal Council to strengthen financial oversight after exiting the IMF programme.
Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem announced this during a courtesy call from Ms. Emmanuelle Boulestreau, Head of France's Regional Economic Department for Nigeria and Ghana, and Mr. Julien Frioux, Head of French Economic Department at the Ghana Embassy.
The meeting emphasized deepening Ghana-France economic ties, regional development, and investment opportunities.
Mr. Ampem expressed optimism about Ghana's recovery, crediting international partnerships including France. He confirmed IMF targets remain on track, with inflation at 3.8% and positive macroeconomic trends.
The proposed Fiscal Council – comprising locally appointed members – will provide advisory oversight on financial controls and decisions post-IMF, enhancing domestic accountability.
Ms. Boulestreau reaffirmed France's commitment to Ghana's infrastructure and energy sectors.
