Deputy Minister Donates 110,000 Chicks to Boost Poultry Farming in Bono East

Techiman (Bono East), Feb. 15,  – In a bid to strengthen Ghana’s poultry sector and reduce reliance on imports, Mr John Dumelo, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, has handed over 110,000 day-old chicks to poultry farmers across the Bono East Region under the government’s Nkoko Nketenkete programme.

The farmers, spread across all 11 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), will each receive 10,000 chicks. The distribution is accompanied by 48,833 bags of feed, 63,000 doses of antibiotics and 44,000 units of glucose to ensure the survival and growth of the birds.

Addressing beneficiaries at a ceremony in Techiman, Mr Dumelo stressed that the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalise the poultry industry, create jobs, and curb the annual importation of chicken.

He noted that Nkoko Nketenkete forms a component of the ongoing Feed Ghana programme, under which farmers will soon benefit from subsidised fertilisers, seedlings, and other essential farm inputs. He urged recipients to provide proper care for the birds to maximise the programme’s benefits.

Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, Bono East Regional Minister, lauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention with the potential to ease economic pressures on citizens while supporting local production. He encouraged farmers to take full advantage of the support to expand their poultry operations and contribute to national food security.

The Regional Minister also directed the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) personnel to closely monitor the project to ensure accountability, proper management, and the realisation of expected outcomes.
