COCOBOD Deputy CEO welcomes investigations into conflict of interest claims

Accra, Feb. 23, – Mr Ato Boateng, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance and Administration at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has expressed support for potential inquiries by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) into allegations of conflict of interest involving his past association with Atlas Commodities Limited.

The allegations were raised by the Minority in Parliament, led by the Old Tafo MP, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who called for a criminal investigation into Atlas Commodities’ operations. The Minority claimed the company had been operating in warehouses registered under the Produce Buying Company (PBC) without proper authorisation, citing potential breaches of regulations and conflicts of interest.

In response, Mr. Boateng dismissed the claims as “entirely false and baseless,” providing a detailed account of his actions prior to joining COCOBOD. He stated that he resigned as a director of Atlas Commodities Limited on January 20, 2025, before his appointment to the COCOBOD Board.

He further clarified that he transferred all his shares in Atlas Commodities to Edinam Yao Cofie and George Ofori, who now manage them as trustees. To ensure full transparency, Mr. Boateng declared his previous interests in Atlas Commodities in his official Declaration of Assets and Liabilities, which has been duly lodged with the Auditor-General.

The Deputy CEO also highlighted COCOBOD’s operational structure, noting that the Board does not hold shares in the Produce Buying Company and does not influence its management decisions, distancing himself from the specific allegations regarding warehouse authorisations.

Mr. Boateng welcomed any formal investigation by OSP and CHRAJ, affirming his commitment to transparency and compliance with public service regulations.
