Accra, Feb. 23, — President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), with immediate effect.
He succeeds Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, according to an official statement issued by the Authority on Monday.
Mr Kanor brings more than 30 years of experience in revenue mobilisation, border security and trade facilitation within the GRA. His appointment is expected to reinforce Customs administration, enhance compliance and support national economic growth through secure and efficient trade systems.
Recognised for his integrity and strategic leadership, Mr Kanor previously served as Officer in Charge of Port Operations, where he supervised core Customs functions, including enforcement of customs regulations, revenue collection and trade facilitation.
His stewardship contributed to strengthening border control systems and improving compliance across Ghana’s international trade landscape.
Throughout his career, he has held several senior roles nationwide, including Sector Commander at Kotoka International Airport and Wa Collections, as well as Chief Revenue Officer in various operational areas.
In these capacities, he led intelligence-driven operations that curbed smuggling activities, exposed invoice falsification schemes and disrupted criminal networks engaged in vehicle identification manipulation, thereby boosting revenue performance and safeguarding national security.
Mr Kanor has also been instrumental in advancing modernisation initiatives within the Customs Division, notably the implementation of electronic valuation systems and other strategic reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing cargo clearance turnaround times.
These efforts have helped align Ghana’s Customs administration with international best practices while facilitating legitimate trade.
The Board, Management and staff of the GRA congratulated Mr Kanor on his appointment and expressed appreciation to the outgoing Commissioner, Brig. Gen. Annan, for his service and leadership.
