SIC Insurance PLC Targets Higher Insurance Penetration Through Media Partnership

Accra, Dec. 12, – Ghana's leading indigenous insurer, SIC Insurance PLC, pledged to team up with media outlets to drive up insurance adoption across the nation.

Speaking at a media event in Accra on Friday, Managing Director Mr. James Agyenim Boateng outlined the company's push to inform the public on insurance benefits, dispel myths about policies and claims, and spotlight positive outcomes to foster greater confidence.

“We cannot transform this project without strong collaboration with those of you in the media," he said. “We therefore invite you to join hands with SIC Insurance PLC to educate the public about the importance of insurance, clarify misconceptions surrounding policies and claims, and amplify success stories that build trust in the industry, as well as advocate financial protection through insurance as a national culture.”

Mr. Agyenim Boateng also revealed plans for a mandatory travel insurance product called the “Akwaaba” Policy, targeting all non-Ghanaian visitors starting January 1, 2026, “barring any unforeseen circumstances.” He confirmed regulatory approvals were in place for rollout.

“It is our belief that together we can elevate public understanding and push Ghana's insurance penetration significantly higher in 2026 and beyond,” he added.

The MD highlighted a 344 percent surge in the company's share price on the Ghana Stock Exchange since early 2025, crediting digital upgrades, customer-focused services, and solid underwriting practices. He noted payouts of GH¢78 million in claims through August 2025, following GH¢173.45 million last year, alongside ramped-up digital tools for policy buying and renewals.

SIC Insurance PLC plans to double down on these digital efforts and customer priorities in 2026.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng urged media partners to join forces in spreading insurance awareness, supporting the drive to boost penetration for the good of Ghanaians and the economy.
