Mahama arrives in Abidjan for President Ouattara’s investiture

Accra, Dec. 8,  – President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, from Doha, Qatar, to attend the investiture ceremony of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, who begins a new term in office.

A statement issued by the Presidency said the inauguration would take place on Monday, December 8, at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan.

President Mahama’s attendance, the statement noted, underscores the strong diplomatic, economic, and historical ties between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

The ceremony is expected to draw several African heads of state and a wide array of international dignitaries, reflecting its significance as a major regional diplomatic event.

According to the statement, the investiture follows President Ouattara’s re-election, in which he secured 89.77 per cent of the vote.

Security arrangements in Abidjan have been intensified ahead of the high-level gathering, given the presence of multiple world leaders and regional representatives.

The statement added that President Mahama’s participation reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in areas such as trade, security, and regional integration.

The inauguration is also expected to outline the key priorities and policy direction for President Ouattara’s new mandate.
