Ghana protests ill-treatment of nationals at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport

Accra, Dec. 10,
 – The Government of Ghana has lodged a strong protest against what it describes as the humiliating and inhumane treatment of Ghanaian travellers by Israeli authorities at the Ben Gurion International Airport.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government said it was deeply troubled by the deliberate targeting of Ghanaian nationals since Sunday, December 7, 2025, when seven travellers—including four Members of Parliament en route to the Annual International Cybersecurity Conference in Tel Aviv—were detained without justification.

The MPs and the three other Ghanaians were held for more than five hours, and only released following intense diplomatic engagement.

The remaining three travellers were subsequently deported on the next available flight and have since arrived back in Ghana.

The Ministry condemned the actions of Israeli authorities as unfair, provocative, and incompatible with the longstanding friendly relations between Ghana and Israel, which date back more than six decades.

The Government also rejected claims from Israeli officials that the deportations were influenced by alleged non-cooperation from Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Such claims, the statement insisted, were untenable, noting that the Ghanaian Mission had acted fully in accordance with international law and established diplomatic procedures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to summon officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra to formally communicate Ghana’s displeasure and demand an explanation for the treatment of its citizens.
