Accra, Dec. 12, – The Accra High Court issued dramatic developments today in the ongoing legal disputes surrounding the funeral arrangements for highlife legend Daddy Lumba (Charles Kojo Fosu), who passed away on July 26, 2025, at age 60.
In a fresh ruling, the court ordered applicants in a family dispute—led by maternal relatives—to pay GH¢2 million by 2:00 PM today to cover funeral preparation costs, failing which the burial scheduled for Saturday, December 13, will proceed as planned under family head (Abusuapanyin) Kofi Owusu.
The court recalled lawyers from both sides during proceedings, emphasizing that the payment addresses expenses if the funeral is ultimately halted. This follows an earlier injunction granted to Daddy Lumba's maternal family, which restrained Kofi Owusu from organizing the funeral and barred Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body.
The injunction stemmed from allegations that immediate family members were excluded from key decisions, violating Akan customs requiring consultation with maternal relatives in burial matters. The court directed Owusu to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to agree on a new date and ordered funeral funds separated from the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation accounts.
Today's caveat allows Transitions Funeral Home to release the body to the family head for Saturday's ceremony if the GH¢2 million condition remains unmet, balancing due process with practical burial needs amid rising costs from delays.
The legal saga compounds earlier High Court rulings from November 2025, when both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni) were declared customary widows, entitling them to perform rites - a decision based on video evidence from Lumba's 60th birthday where he acknowledged both wives.
