Accra, May 7, – Yusif
Abubakar, Aduana Stars Coach, has said
his team is still capable of qualifying to the quarter finals of the ongoing
Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup, despite their lone
goal loss to ASEC Mimosas.
He said the results in the match
played last Sunday, was a surprise to him as they hoped for a better results,
but however noted that, it did not spell the end of the road for his team in
the competition.
Coach Yussif who was speaking to
GNA Sports, said, if his boys put their minds to it, they would be capable of
overturning the results at home in the second leg and make it to the quarter
finals or semifinals of the competition.
“This is a league system, it
could be that we would not win an away game, hence we would have to take our
home games seriously,” he added.
He said, for is to have qualified
to the group stages of the CAF Confed Cup, was even an achievement to them
because no Ghanaian club had made it to the same stage of the competition in
the last six years.
“We cannot say much on whether we
will get to the quarter finals or semifinals, but we have to make sure that we
make an impact in the league system, and see whether we can get to those
stages.
“The most important thing is to
make sure that we secure either first or second position in the group and that
is achievable if only we intend to do it, and that is our aim and we intend to
do strongly”.
Aduana Stars lost their opening
game of Group A against ASEC Mimosas 1:0 away at the Stade Robert Champroux in
Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
