Accra, Feb. 6, - A woman on
Tuesday broke down in tears when an Accra Circuit Court remanded her unemployed
son who attempted to rob two students of their mobile phones at knifepoint in
their hostel near, Madina.
The woman whose name was not readily
available could not hide her tears when she saw the Police handcuffed her son
and whisked him away.
The son, Prince Adu-Gyamfi is
alleged to have inflicted knife wounds on the face and shoulders of the
complainants in his bid to rob them.
Prince is currently facing
charges of unlawful entry, causing harm and attempting to commit crime. He is
to reappear on February 28.
He pleaded not guilty before the
court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh.
Earlier, Defence Counsel Mr Abdul
Gafar, prayed the court to admit his client to bail because he was young, has a
fixed place of abode and had his parents and other relations who are of
substance to stand sureties for him.
According Mr Gafar, Prince had
never jumped bail and he had no capacity to interfere with investigations or
processes.
Prosecuting, Superintendent of
Police, Patience Mario opposed the bail application because the hostel was
still open and accused could go and harass students there.
Supt. Mario said Prince is a
threat and need to be kept, and examined and also he was a flight risk.
The facts as narrated by Supt.
Mario were that the complainants were Sandra Aba Nunoo and Eunice Osei,
students of University of Professional Studies, Accra and Institutes of Languages
respectively.
The Prosecution said Sandra and
Eunice resides at Goodwill Hostels, at Madina whilst Prince resides at Madina
Zongo.
According to the Prosecution, on
January 31, this year, at about 14:15 hours, Prince went to the second floor of
the complainants’ hostel and attacked the complainant with a knife in an
attempt to dispossess Sandra off her Infinix mobile phone valued at GH₵450.00.
In the process, Prince inflicted
knife wounds on her face as she shouted for help.
The Prosecution said the accused
then attacked Eunice who came out from the next room when she heard Sandra
screamed in other to aid her.
According to the Prosecution in
an attempt by Eunice to prevent Prince from escaping, the accused person stabbed
Eunice in the shoulder.
Luck however eluded Prince when
witnesses apprehended him.
