Accra, Feb. 06, - The Appeals
Committee of the Ghana football association (GFA), has thrown out an appeal by
Accra great Olympics against a decision made by the disciplinary committee and
slapped the Accra based club with a fine of ₵3,000.00.
According to the verdict released
from GFA Appeals Committee and copied to GNA Sports it has dismissed Great
Olympics FC's appeal of the Disciplinary Committee's ruling in their case
against Elmina Sharks FC on the grounds that the “Committee is satisfied that
the Disciplinary Committee properly applied the Regulations of the GFA in
arriving at its decision and that “the appellant has failed to show any
exceptional circumstances to warrant this Committee's interference with the
decision of the Disciplinary Committee.
Furthermore from the six member
appeals committee and chaired by Mr. Cosmas Anpengnuo the committee noted that
“we agree with the Disciplinary Committee that the Disciplinary Committee has
no jurisdiction to extend the time within which to file a protest.
“The appellant has not
demonstrated or reasonably raised any issue or issues of fraud save to claim
that the fielding of an unqualified player is fraudulent.
“The view of this Committee is
that the fielding of an "unqualified player" per se is not
necessarily fraudulent.
“The appellant has failed to
demonstrate how Article 39 (5) (a) (v) of the General Regulations of the GFA is
applicable in this application for extension of time within which to file a
protest.
“Article 39(5) (a) (v) of the
General Regulations of the GFA states that; "(a) without prejudice to the
powers of the Disciplinary Committee, a player cautioned by a referee for; (v)
any other offence on the field of play, shall be informed in writing by the GFA
for a first and second offence; he shall be automatically suspended from taking
part in the next official match for any other subsequent offence".
