Accra, Jan 12, – An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two
persons to 24 years imprisonment for conspiring and robbing one Joseph Zormelo
of his motorbike worth GH₵3,600.00
at gun point.
The two conspired and robbed the
motorbike at Ablorman, near Amasaman.
They pleaded guilty to both
charges and are to serve 10 years each for conspiracy and 12 years each for
robbery, both to run concurrently.
Presenting the facts of the case
before the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, the Prosecution
led by Police Chief Inspector Adu told the court that the complainant, Joseph
is a motor bike rider residing at Obeyeyie, while Joseph is a mason and Sulley
is a motorbike mechanic.
He said the two convicts both
reside at Ablorman.
On December 24, Joseph hired the
complainant to transport him to Ablorman near Amasaman.
However, on reaching a section of
the road the convict asked the complainant to stop.
Mr Adu said when the complainant
stopped; Sulley emerged from a nearby bush with a pump action gun and ordered
the complainant to surrender his motorbike.
The two snatched the motorbike
from the complainant and rode away. Joseph, the complainant, raised an alarm
and witnesses rushed to the scene in search of the convicts.
According to the prosecution, in
the course of the search, a witness found an Itel phone at the scene which had
Joseph’s picture as its wallpaper.
Joseph was traced and arrested by
the witness at his hideout at Ablorman and where he confessed to the offence,
mentioning Sulley as his accomplice.
He told the court that Joseph led
the witness to the house of Sulley, where he was also arrested.
During a search in Sulley’s room,
the motorbike and the pump action gun used in the robbery were found and
retained.
The two were handed over to the
police together with the exhibits.
