Accra, Jan. 9, - The Ghana Boxing
Authority (GBA) has announced three world title fights, that would see the
possible arrival of a world title in Ghana by the close of 2018.
According to the GBA, Habib Ahmed
would on 3rd February, fight World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Super Middleweight
champion Gilberto Ramirez, in the United States America (USA), whilst Raphael
Mensah takes on World Boxing Authority (WBA) Super Featherweight Champion in
March.
World Boxing Organisation (WBO)
Super Bantamweight Interim champion, Isaac Dogbe is expected to fight for the
world title proper in March, against Jesse Magdaleno, after defeating Cesar
Jaurez, last Saturday.
Mr Peter Zweenes, President of
the GBA, made this known when a delegation from his outfit, paid courtesy call
on His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
He was accompanied by World
Boxing Organisation (WBO) Vice President John Dugan and other WBO
representatives in Africa and the Youth and Sports Minister Mr. Isaac Asiamah.
Mr Zweenes said, Richard Commey
would also fight in the Final Elimination bout for on 10th February 2018 at
Texas, USA, whilst plans are in place for International Boxing Organisation
(IBO) champion for Emmanuel Tagoe to defend his title on a date yet to be
announced.
Madam Frema Opare, Chief of Staff
at the Presidency, who received the delegation on behalf president expressed
the government’s readiness to support and solicit for funds to help Ghanaian
potential world title boxers for their upcoming bouts in 2018.
She said the government would
support the boxers financially and morally especially on the back of of Isaac
Dogbe's spectacular display last Saturday,
adding that support from government would be shared equally among the
boxers.
