Accra, Jan. 11, – The
Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), has ratified major reforms to the
continents club competitions.
According to CAF, the next
continental competitions, would commence in December and end May 2019.
The current calendar for the club
competition commences in February and ends in December the same year.
It is however expected to run a
full cycle by 2019, as the season would then run from September to May of the
following year.
This was ratified by the
Executive Committee of the continents football controlling body, held in
Casablanca, Morocco.
The reform follows the
implementation in 2018 of the African Football Symposium held in Morocco by
CAF, which made a resolution to change the periodicity for club competitions.
CAF added that, the new
transition would be executed with a more rigorous application of the Club
Licensing regulations.
CAF also approved a calendar of
the interclub competitions for the year 2018, with modification of the
regulations and an additional draw before the quarter-finals stage.
