Accra, Jan 13, - Ataa Eddie
Pappoe, Ghana’s leading boxing referee /judge, has said, Referee Tony Weeks was
right for stopping the fight between Isaac Dogbe and Cesar Juarez in the
Interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) Super Bantamweight title fight, last
Saturday, at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
According to Ataa Eddie Pappoe,
who is the President of African Boxing Union Ring Officials, the referee in the
middle acted professionally on the night.
“There was nothing wrong with the
stoppage. Tony acted swiftly and promptly. There are rules of every game.”
The renowned referee said in an
interview with GNA Sports.
After the fight, the Mexican who
had fell heavily on the canvass from a left hook from Dogboe protested the decision.
Ataa Eddie Pappoe, noted that the
number of falls in a fight, plays a role deciding the winner of a contest,
including ring generalship.
Ataa Eddie Pappoe, said the
recent seminar for boxing trainers was in the right direction and commended the
leadership of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) who have been working with
previous presidents to ensure that the sport is on track.
He congratulated former
presidents, Samir Captan and Moses Foe Amoaning for their contributions, even
when they are not running affairs.
He urged all stake holders to put
their shoulders to the wheel to push Ghana Boxing to its proper position as the
leading discipline.
