Kumasi, Dec 20,- Two men arrested
for attacking and robbing a man of his gold, cash and other valuables worth GH₵31,721.00 at gun point have been
sentenced to a total of 50 years imprisonment.
Justice Anim and Gabriel Asante
had pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery.
They would each spend 25 years in
prison.
Nana Konadu Owusu Banahene, a
State Attorney, told the court, presided over by Mr. John Ekow Mensah that the
incident happened on January 24, last year, at about 1915 hours, at Kunsu in
the Ahafo-Ano South Municipality.
The pair, armed with pistol and
knives, attacked the victim, Mr. Frederick Tawiah, a gold dealer, in his shop,
ordered him to open his safe and seized his gold, cash and mobile phones.
They also mercilessly beat up the
man and stabbed him in the head with a knife.
The convicts from there continued
to the chief’s palace on the next leg of their robbery operation but things did
not work out the way they had expected.
Asante was overpowered, arrested
and handed over to the police as his criminal colleague fled.
Asante later led investigators to
apprehend Anim.
The State Attorney said some of
the stolen items including cash of GH₵1,850.00
and phones were retrieved from them.
