Accra, Nov. 30, - Mrs Georgina
Asare-Fiagbenu, Executive Secretary of the Ghana MTN Foundation, has said the
lives of millions of Ghanaians have been positively touched either directly or
indirectly by the MTN Ghana Foundation.
She said the Foundation has
inspired confidence and given hope to the hopeless, by investing more than
$13.4 million in 142 projects within its focus areas of education, health and
economic empowerment.
Mrs Asare- Fiagbenu said this
during an interaction with Journalist for Business Advocacy (JBA) members in
Accra on Wednesday.
According to her “the Foundation
has shown commitment to the socio-economic development of the country through
the roll out of appropriate and sustainable social interventions in communities
all over the country.”
She added that the Foundation
facilitated partnership and sharing of resources to achieve these mutual
objectives.
Mrs Asare-Fiagbenu noted that the
Foundation over its 10 years of existence “has 1,000 students as beneficiaries
of the scholarship scheme, 60 teachers also have received study scholarships to
further their education under the Teacher Improvement Award Project.
“Sixteen schools have been built,
as well as 21 other Information and Communication centres built.
“Under the education project
there have been three dormitories and five libraries built. The Foundation also
sponsors the National Best Teacher Award.”
The Foundation is celebrating 10
years of touching lives under the theme: “Celebrating Ten years of Brightening
lives, inspiring a brighter future,” which is expected to run through to March
next year.
Mrs Asare-Fiagbenu indicated that
they were proud of the strides the Foundation had made in ten years and were
willing to invest more to transform the lives of deprived communities.
She said the Foundation would
soon be handing over the Maternity Unit of the Tema General Hospital.
She added that the Foundation
will officially launch the Anniversary Scholarship Project in January next year
which will benefit 300 tertiary students in three years.
The MTN Ghana Foundation was
established in 2007 as a single purpose vehicle to drive all MTN's CSR
initiatives in the country.
Over the years, the Foundation
has received several awards for it meticulous service to the deprived
including; Corporate Philanthropist of the year award 2017, Safety and well
Being Award from GHACEA CSR 2017, and CSR Practitioner of the year award.
Mrs Asare-Fiagbenu said that the
Foundation sought to make more impact to improve the wellbeing and quality of
lives of the people.
