The new curfew hours for the Nkonya and Alavanyo as well as the Bimbilla Townships are from 1100 hours to 0500 hours and from 1800 hours to 0600 hours respectively, and expected to take effect from 17th February, 2017 while that of the Kpatinga Township, scheduled to be effective on Thursday 16th February, 2017 would begin at 2000 hours to 0400 hours.
A statement signed by Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister for the Interior and copied to the Ghana News Agency, expressed appreciation to all the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the catchment areas for their cooperation and efforts in ensuring peace in the areas.
He urged them to exercise restraint in the face of challenges confronting them and assured them that the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes would be implemented.
“Government continues to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” the statement said.
The decision to review the curfew hours had been considered by the sector Minister in consultation with the Volta and Northern Regional Security Councils and by an Executive Instrument.
Meanwhile, residents in the said towns have been cautioned against possessing any form of weapons.
“Government would like to reiterate that there is a ban on all persons in the towns from carrying arms, ammunitions and any offensive weapons,” it added.
The statement warned that anyone found with arms would be arrested and consequently prosecuted.
