Nationwide Bird Distribution Begins Under 'Nkoko Nketenkete'

Berekum (Bono), Feb. 12, – The nationwide distribution of birds under the government's flagship 'Nkoko Nketenkete' poultry revitalisation programme has commenced, Deputy National Coordinator Mr. Gordon Asubonteng of the Feed Ghana programme has announced.

President John Dramani Mahama launched the 2025 initiative to curb frozen chicken imports by distributing three million birds directly to homes, schools, and communities nationwide.

Phase One Implementation

At the Berekum Municipality launch in Bono Region:

  • Each beneficiary receives 50 birds, feed, and technical support

  • Targets transform subsistence into sustainable poultry businesses

  • 275 MMDAs urged to empower youth through poultry production

Mr. Asubonteng emphasised food security as central to the Reset Ghana agenda, promoting job creation and poverty reduction.

"Proper care of these birds will justify Phase Two," he told beneficiaries.

Non-Partisan Approach

MoFA Public Affairs Head Mr. Apraku Lartey clarified the programme targets all Ghanaians regardless of political affiliation, including new entrants to poultry farming, not just established farmers.

A poultry farmer commended the initiative for revitalising the sector and called for processing factories to guarantee market access.
