“My assurance is anchored in precedent, in the work we have done, and in an honest reading of the political period we are in,” he said.
In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency in Accra, he drew comparisons with earlier NPP leaders, noting that Dr. K.A. Busia and former President John Agyekum Kufuor both won on their first bid for leadership.
“What united them was timing, clarity of mission, and a message that resonated beyond core supporters. I believe this period presents a similar opportunity for the NPP.”
Dr. Acheampong was unequivocal about the momentum of his campaign. “I will win the primary. We have directly engaged 90 per cent of delegates. We have profiled 180,000 delegates and, with near-military precision, I can say we are on course to victory. Mention any constituency and I can indicate our standing there today,” he stated.
He said the sentiment within the party grassroots was clear. “There is a demand for change, for discipline, and for results. Delegates want a unifier who can mobilise resources and secure power,” he stressed, arguing that the party is prepared for a renewed leadership direction.
Responding to ongoing discussions on regional representation, Acheampong rejected the idea that location should dictate leadership outcomes. “Where one comes from does not define one’s future,” he noted, referencing the party’s record of leadership transitions across different regions. “The true considerations should be competence, character, credibility, and capacity to win and govern successfully.”
He emphasised that the party requires revitalisation. “The NPP needs new leadership to restore confidence, reconnect with its grassroots, and secure victory again,” he said.
Reflecting on his career, Acheampong described his four parliamentary terms as crucial to his development. “They have taught me how politics functions in practice — forging consensus, balancing interests, and remaining resolute when necessary,” he remarked. He added that his experience working across factions during challenging periods has equipped him to lead with decisiveness.
“I know the grassroots, the parliamentary group, and the broader national political landscape,” he concluded. “This experience positions me to lead the party, win elections, and govern with authority.”
