Accra, Nov. 27, - The former
Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, has raised
concerns over the whereabouts of the prize money for Ghana’s participation in
the 2017 African Cup on Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.
The former minister who doubles
as a legislator for the Odododiodio Constituency, said this during the review
on the 2018 budgetary allocation for sports on the floor of parliament.
He said, he was surprised that
the 2018 budget did not capture the AFCON money as cash in flow for the Youth
and Sports ministry.
He said he was concerned about
the money and demanded answers for the whereabouts of the money and what the
money had been used for.
“Budget is an indication of
expenditure and receivables. The ministry has just taken hold of the prize
money of Ghana’s participation in AFCON 2017. In the budget I was expecting
that, I would see that either in the ITF or receivables but nothing. I ask where is that money, what has it been
used for?” the minister enquired.
Ghana placed fourth at the 2017
AFCON in Gabon is estimated to have taken home not less $750,000.00 as prize
money.
