Accra, Nov. 27, - Mr Chris
Addy-Nayo, a member of the National Democratic Congress Party in the Buem
Constituency, has called for reforms in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
to focus on strengthening the grassroot base of the party.
He explained that the challenges
facing the party had its roots in the rural areas and there was the need to
deal with the problems and challenges in rural communities.
Mr Addy-Nayo, was speaking at a
Meeting in Berekum in the Brong-Ahafo Region with the Constituency members.
The meeting was in response to
the Kwesi Botchwey Report to restructure and restore the capacity and
effectiveness of the various organs of the Party especially at the branch level
which connected directly to rural communities.
NDC is embarking on a rebuilding
exercise in its branch base to make it stronger and also as a foundation
towards winning the trust of the electorate and help rebuild the country based
on its Social Democratic credentials, reconnecting itself to social democratic
roots especially with rural communities and the Youth and women.
Mr Addy-Nayo said that the
current situation, where a greater proportion of the nation’s resources ended
up in urban communities exacerbated the current social and economic challenges
facing the country.
He called for efforts to be made
to invest more of the nation’s limited resources in rural communities, adding
that this would only be possible if political parties in the country focused
their agenda on rural development.
He, therefore, called on the
leadership of the local Constituencies in the Brong-Ahafo region to engage with
the National NDC Executives to refocus the ongoing reforms in the Party on
prioritising the strengthening of rural branches of the party to make them more
relevant to their grassroot communities.
Mr Addy-Nayo also urged the Party
members in Berekum and the Brong-Ahafo Region to specifically protect their
environment, forests and rivers bodies, since this would help in the
rejuvenation of a clean and healthy environment in rural communities
contributing to the social and economic development of the country.
The NDC Party continues to
rebuild its structures and policies before going back to the people for a
mandate towards the 2020 elections.
