Ho, Nov. 28, - The National
Association of Hygiene Students on Tuesday petitioned government over their
exemption from the reinstated nursing and teacher training allowances.
The students after demonstrating
in the streets of Ho and gathering at the Regional Coordinating Council
threatened to embark on a sit down strike if their allowances were not restored
by the end of November.
A petition signed by Mr Jacob
Amanor, National President of the Association and Students Representative
Council executives of Schools of Hygiene in Ho, Tamale and Accra, said they did
not understand why students of the School of Hygiene should be sidelined in the
payment of restored allowances despite engagements with stakeholders in August
2017 after which students’ particulars were processed for payments.
It appealed to President Nana
Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remember his campaign promises and resolve the issue.
Mr Maxwell Blagodzi, Deputy Volta
Regional Minister, who received the petition, said the plea is a “clear
testimony of the significance of the restored allowances” and appealed to the
students to return to their studies, adding that the petition would receive the
needed consideration.
