Accra, Nov. 22, - An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday
handed a ten year jail term to a Fisherman, Kwabla Kpodo, on the charge of
robbery.
Kwabla was put before the court
for robbing one Evert V. Uffeter citizen of Netherland, who is currently on
holidays in Ghana, of his backpack bag containing, his Netherlands passport,
assorted bank cards, a wrist watch, sun glasses, a pair of slippers and an
amount of GH₵350.00.
He pleaded guilty to the charge
before the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh and was sentenced
accordingly.
The Prosecution led by
Superintendent Kweku Bempah told the court that the convict is a fisherman
resident at Tsokome in the Greater Accra Region.
He said on November 18, at about
1430 hours, the complainant was walking along the shores of the Tsokome beach
with his bag behind him when suddenly Kwabla who had then laid ambush, emerged
from nowhere with a cutlass in his hand and violently attacked the complaint,
collected his bag and bolted.
Superintendent Bempah said on the
same a day a report was made to the Police, which led to the arrest of the
convict from his hideout at Tsokome together with the complainant’s stolen bag
and some of its content.
The Prosecution told the court that
in his caution statement, Kwabla, admitted the offence and mentioned one Castro
as his accomplice who ordered him to attack the complainant.
