Aflao, Nov. 30, – A farmer, 34, has been sentenced to 10 years
in prison by an Aflao Circuit Court for possessing dried leaves suspected to be
Indian Hemp.
Kudzordzi Mensah, pleaded guilty
before the court presided over by Alhaji Ali Baba Abature.
Mr. Seth Appau, a Police Chief
Inspector told the court that about noon on November 18, this year, the
convict, who lives at Aflao, tried to cross the “Beat Nine’’ entry point to
Lome, Togo.
He said upon suspicion, a
Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) personnel on duty there searched through the bag
of the convict and found a half slab and 22 wraps of dried leaves suspected to
be Indian-Hemp.
Mr. Appau said the convict
claimed he was given the substance by someone in Ghana to deliver to another in
Lome but failed in helping the police in tracing those persons.
The court has meanwhile ordered
the destruction of the exhibit by a team from the court and officials from the
Narcotics Control Board.
