Pupils of Jang R/C Primary School appeal for renovation of classrooms

Jang (S/R), Dec. 21, — Pupils of Jang Roman Catholic Primary School in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region have appealed to government and development partners to assist in rehabilitating their deteriorating school infrastructure.

According to the pupils, the poor condition of classroom blocks continues to undermine effective teaching and learning.

The appeal was conveyed in a speech delivered by Master Sabsomu Nana, a Basic Six pupil and Students’ Representative, during the commissioning of a solar-powered mechanised water system for the Jang community.

He explained that rising enrolment had placed considerable strain on the school’s limited facilities and called on stakeholders to help address critical challenges, including dilapidated classrooms and insufficient furniture, to enable pupils to realise their academic potential.

Mr Thomas Baturi, Headmaster of Jang Roman Catholic Primary School, described the state of the school’s infrastructure as alarming, citing cracked walls, leaking roofs and inadequate classroom space.

He noted that the deteriorating structures posed safety risks to both pupils and teachers and adversely affected the overall learning environment. He therefore appealed to government, corporate institutions and philanthropic organisations to support renovation efforts.

Mr Saaka Sinkina, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive, disclosed that steps were being taken to seek assistance from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to rehabilitate the school.

He further indicated that the District Assembly was working towards constructing a Junior High School block for the Jang community to ease pressure on existing facilities.

Mr Salisu Bi-Wurbe, Savannah Regional Minister, who was represented at the event, reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving water supply, education and infrastructure in the region. He urged community members to take collective responsibility for maintaining the newly commissioned water facility to ensure its sustainability.
