Nkawie (Ash), Feb. 12, – The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly in Ashanti Region has given homeowners six months to install domestic toilet facilities or risk legal action.
Violators will face enforcement under assembly bylaws and national laws.
A notice from Assembly Chief Executive Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, stated the moratorium was approved at the second ordinary general assembly session on October 23, 2025.
Effective February 1 to July 1, 2026, the directive aligns with section six clause two (a) of assembly bylaws and the National Building, Land Use and Spatial Planning Regulations.
It draws from the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), mandating at least one operational, accessible toilet per home to safeguard resident health and welfare. These rules also demand assembly permits for building or renovations, plus routine checks for adherence.
The move enforces regulations to protect environmental sanitation and public safety.
“The Assembly is committed to prioritising public health and safety and therefore, works towards the attainment of the sustainable development goal six on clean water and sanitation to promote good health and the prevention of epidemics in the Municipality,” the notice concluded.
