Three arrested for impersonating Speaker of Parliament and IGP


Accra, Dec. 19, – Three individuals alleged to have impersonated Mr Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, and Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector General of Police (IGP), have been arrested.

A Police statement on Friday indicated that the suspects were apprehended by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police Service and are also believed to have impersonated other prominent persons.

The suspects, identified as Judith Soku, 31; Gideon Awudi, 25; and Edem Soku, 33, are accused of using the social media accounts of the Speaker and the IGP to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

They are further alleged to have engaged in Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud, credit card scams, airtime fraud and online sales schemes across various social media platforms.

The arrests were effected at Sogakope and Dabala following sustained intelligence-led operations in Sogakope, Dzodze and Penyi in the Volta Region. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
