Tarkwa (W/R), Dec. 18, – The Tarkwa Circuit Court sentenced galamsey operator Ebenezer Amissah to eight years in prison with hard labor for defiling a 13-year-old girl in a bush.
He entered a guilty plea with explanation.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Veronica Tibson, leading the prosecution before Judge Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, explained that the complainant is related to the victim, a Junior High School student living with siblings at Mile 5 near Nsuaem in the Western Region.
ASP Tibson recounted that on July 26, 2025, the victim's grandmother sent her to buy bread. Along the way, Amissah approached her nearby, showed sexual interest, and professed love.
The next evening, July 27 at around 2200 hours, Amissah encountered the girl again and asked her to meet behind their bathroom for gifted dresses. Once there, he enticed her into adjacent bushes, muffled her mouth with his hand, and raped her on the ground.
The victim cried out, prompting her brother and local youths to rescue her, apprehend Amissah, and turn him over to police.
The complainant filed a formal report at the station and received a medical form. She took the victim to Nsuaem Government Hospital for examination, treatment, and endorsement by a doctor, then returned the completed form.
In his caution statement, Amissah claimed the victim consented. The court dismissed this defense and imposed the sentence.
