Somanya (E/R), Nov. 28, - The
chiefs and people of Yilo Klo State over the weekend celebrated the silver
jubilee edition of Kloyosikplemi festival.
The festival on the theme: “Unity
in Diversity for Development,” was patronised by government officials and
chiefs from other traditional areas.
In a colourful display of Yilo
Klo culture, traditional drummers exhibited their unique skills, which were greeted
with artistic movements, acrobatic displays and dexterity of the Yilo Klos in
interpreting and responding to the drum language.
People who could not jump unto
the dancing floor applauded, whilst others who could not resist the sound of
the drums but were hindered to join also exhibited their skills in their seats.
The atmosphere moved to ecstatic
point when the various Divisional Chiefs and Asafoatseme of the Yilo Klo State
responded to the call of the drums.
In a speech delivered on her
behalf, Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social
Protection, said she was part of the celebration of the festival to demonstrate
her commitment to Ghana’s economic transformation agenda.
She said: “to my kinsmen and
women, we are together in changing the narrative of poverty in Ghana and Klo
State to prosperity”.
She said challenges facing women
is the lack of gender equity, inadequate credit facilities, acquisition of land
and currently we are in the process of being rectified in the various
legislative instruments like the “Gender Policy”.
Madam Djaba promised not to leave
the people out of the various opportunities to support women and children
especially in the areas of the ‘School Feeding’ and the ‘Livelihood Empowerment
Against Poverty’ programmes.
She said the President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo led administration is committed to working hard to reduce and
eliminate poverty and hunger in the society.
The Konor (Paramount Chief) of
the Yilo Klo State Oklepeme Nuer Anorbaah Sasraku II, expressed his
appreciation to all the Divisional Chiefs and titleholders of the traditional
area for standing by him during the tough moments of going to courts to settle
disputes surrounding his paramountcy.
Oklepeme Sasraku II refused to be
tagged with any political party saying that his need for unity to develop the
area was paramount in his agenda to transform the traditional area.
He expressed the need for the
traditional area to unite to build all broken walls, calling on all sons and
daughters of the Yilo Klo land to be poised for action towards the rebuilding
agenda by contributing their quota.
“Let us therefore take a cue from
the theme: ‘Unity in Diversity for Development’ and be united as a people and
not be divided by any artificial demarcations, party colours and anything of
its kind,” he said.
Oklepeme Sasraku II said “I am
not here to destool any chief or queen even though I have the power to
‘destool’ when the need be but that is not my preoccupation”.
He acknowledged the role of chiefs
and queens of the traditional area stating that he bears no grudges with any
anyone and that he was willing to work with all.
Present was Mr Ebenezer Tetteh
Kupualor, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly,
who donated drinks and an amount of money on behalf of the government towards
the successful celebration of the festival.
