Accra, Nov. 22, - The Ministry of
Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has received donations worth Gh₵100,000.00 from fourteen companies
towards the 33rd National Farmers Day Celebrations.
The Day, which would be held on
1st December 2017, seeks to award gallant fisher folks and farmers for their
numerous contributions towards the growth of the economy.
The National Investment Bank made
donation of Gh₵30,000.00, Cash
Oil Company Ltd gave Gh₵10,000.00,
Seam Oil Company Ltd, 5,000.00, Nii Ayitey Quaye (BOSSGIE) donated Gh₵1,000.00, Danny Nii Ayitey Quaye
(Tema Freezing), Gh₵ 1,000.00,
Blue Dolphine, GH₵1,000.00,
and Akrafi Fisheries Ltd also gave Gh₵2,000.00.
The others include; Top Oil
Company Ltd also supported with GH₵10,000.00,
GHACEM gave 1000 bags of cement, Michael Star Company Ltd donated fishing
accessories worth Gh₵51,000.00
and cash of Gh₵5,000.00, CCT
gave Gh₵30,000.00, Sonite
Ghana Ltd, Gh₵2,000.00, and
Value Concern also supported with Gh₵3,000.00.
Mrs Elizabeth Afoley, the
Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, expressed gratitude to
companies for their support.
She said fish provides 60 per
cent of the national protein requirements, saying “As Ghanaians who love to
enjoy our fish with our meal it is therefore important that we say ayekoo to
our gallant fishermen.”
The Minister said the support and
partnership of the companies have proved to be monumental in the quest to
improve the awards package given to the fishers over the years and this have
enhanced their work, improved their livelihoods and further strengthen mutual relations between the Ministry and the
institutions.
She, however, urged other
corporate bodies to come on board and support the Ministry to enable it
provides appropriate prizes to the fishermen.
